This brings up something interesting. Are we to set a limit on when one can baptize the youth, or are they to be baptized as long as they are still under their parents authority? I can't see a biblical or historical reason for allowing infants but not allowing children our teens to be baptized. It appears that the only qualification is that they are part of a believing household, not age.

Any thoughts?

After a quick scan of my materials on the topic of baptism, I did not find any historical references to children ages 6-8 being baptized. My materials provide historical examples of the baptism of infants - but not the young children you specifically reference.

I concur with you that this is a right & proper application of the doctrine - especially the outworking of the covenant.

One source I do not have that you may wish to research is James W. Dale's Christic and Patristic Baptism.

Thanks for the post. I'm doing some research on infant baptism and found your site. Here's a question. What historical evidence is there that baptism should include young children as well as infants? Most Presbyterians will baptize children as old as six, seven, or eight years old as "infants." I think this is right and a proper application of the doctrine, but is there any historical evidence that the Reformer, Puritans or others did this?

Josh,

I was going to let Dwight answer this, but he is probably too busy.

My assumption is that the series is not done yet. Dwight is very busy, so i will be trying to fill in the gaps between his posts with stuff that i find interesting...like a huge post on infant baptism :)

:( I like series for two reasons. 1.) as a reader, they make me come back to the blog and 2.) as a blogger, it keeps a library of material handy. I usually have a few posts in queue that I am working on.

To tell you the truth, you will rarely see me doing a series. I don't really like posting in a series. I don't mind reading other bloggers who do a series, i just don't like posting them.
